Don’t become a victim of Facebook Hoaxes or Hackers Facebook users are being hacked daily, sometimes repeatedly. By now you would have seen the following statements:

“I’ve has been hacked. Don’t accept the friend request from me.”

You may have been tagged in a friend’s posts including an article about the latest get rich quick scheme. Again, hacked.

There are simple steps to protect your Facebook profile from being hacked.

Firstly, go to Security and Login in your settings. You can check here other places/computers that are currently logged into your Facebook Cybersafety account. You should only be logged into your computer and phone. Log out of every other location.

  1. Turn on two-factor authentication.

  2. Change your password.

  3. Turn on alerts for unrecognised logins.

  4. Change your password regularly.

  5. Do not accept Facebook friend invitations from strangers, even contacts of friends.

  6. Don’t take quizzes – they could be collecting possible password choices for other online activities.

  7. Get creative with passwords. Don’t use the same password for anything requiring a password – (use an reputable password storage ap to help you generate and record passwords)

𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐦𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐦 𝐨𝐟 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠, search for other versions of your account and report duplicate profiles to Facebook.

Hacking is still happening, however (just not at the rate reported at the moment) so slow down when you receive an invitation to connect in the event you are already friends with the person seemingly sending you an invitation. I urge you to check any profile you are considering accepting an invitation from, especially strangers!
